Rumsey Rancheria Facilities Department - Property & Farm Management

Property & Farm Management

Maintenance

Maintenance functions include design, repair, development and execution of new projects, preventative maintenance, major remodeling of farm and ranch houses and outbuildings, pest control and custodial services.

Landscape

The primary function of the landscape department is to maintain an aesthetically pleasing and clean grounds environment on the Rancheria Community and farm properties. Work includes planting, trimming and replacing trees, shrubs, grasses and other plant materials, designing and installing new landscape,  developing and maintaining athletic fields, walking paths, ponds, planters and new flowerbeds, and fencing.

Farm

Rumsey Rancheria is very proactive in the institution of sustainable farming practices. Sustainable farming practices are ways of farming that not only protect the environment but preserve it for generations to come. Incorporating natural systems into the farming practices ensures a productive and profitable future. Natural systems include planned use of insects and ground covers, mulching and irrigation systems and careful crop rotation cycles.  The crop rotation includes wheat, oats, hay, safflower, seed crops, cover crops and grapes. Rumsey Indian Rancheria takes pride in being stewards of the land for the 2000 acres currently being farmed.

Ranch

The ranch is a sign of the growing diversity of the Tribe’s interests.  Horses and cattle located on 500 acres of rangeland in the Capay Valley are available so that members can learn animal husbandry and experience the pleasures and challenges of livestock management.
